He picked up the phone and saw the caller was his sister, Renata, who lives across town. “Hey, sis, wassup?”
“Hi, Fred, how are you?” Renata asks.
“Oh, well, thanks.”
“Is Julie (Fred’s wife) home? I tried calling her, but her phone went to voicemail.”
“Nah, she’s out of town at her Nursing Conference. Can I help you?”
A pause. “I don’t know. I kinda need a woman.”
“Come on, what is it?”
His sister sighed.
“It’s Jane. She’s at this club in town, and I promised to pick her up at midnight, but I’ve developed a bad migraine, and I’m not well enough to drive into the city to get her.”
Fred frowned, wondering why this needed a woman. “So why not let me go and fetch her? Surely, I, a mere male, can cope with that?”
Another pause. “Oh, it’s not that. It’s just that the club is a girl’s only thing. Men are strictly forbidden to enter it.”
“Well, why don’t you call Jane and have her meet me out the front? That way, I won’t cramp her style,” Fred suggested.
Another pause. “OK, I’ll do that. The club is on Second Avenue. It’s called ‘Mystique.’ It’s a few blocks down from that Irish bar we went to last St. Paddy’s day, remember?”
“Oh yeah, I’ll find it. You get some rest.”
“Thanks, Fred, you’re a lifesaver. I’ll call her now.”
The call ended.
Fred stood and went to his bedroom and changed. His mind buzzed with his sister’s weird comment about Jane needing a woman to pick her up. He put it down to her migraine, making her delirious, and off he went into the city.

The drive into the town seemed quick as very little traffic used the freeway at that time of night, apart from trucks. Once in the city zone, this changed abruptly. Cars, motorbikes, taxis, buses, and pedestrians were everywhere. Most of the revelers were young people out sowing their wild oats, and he felt relief that he didn’t have to go through that anymore. He’d reached that age where a good cup of tea and a night on the couch watching TV is far more appealing than going to nightclubs trying to meet acolytes.
Even though most would think he liked to party hard when he was a younger man, he never really liked it that much. The hangovers, the meat-market aspect, the STIs, and the competitiveness between guys trying to score. However, this form of socializing is part of his culture, especially for those in their late teens and twenties. So, he had felt obligated to do it, peer group pressure, one would call it.
He spotted the Irish Bar his sister had mentioned and continued past it, looking at both sides of the street. Eventually, he found the club called ‘Mystique,’ the sign of a pink neon affair in a fluid handwriting effect. He slowed, looking for Jane out the front. However, he couldn’t see her amongst the various acolytes smoking cigarettes.
“Fuck,” Fred cursed under his breath.
He spotted a parking spot, parked a block away, and walked back to the club. Standing across the street from Mystique, he looked for Jane again. ‘Where’re the guys,’ he wondered as he scanned the crowd. Young acolytes were standing around the club entrance dressed in highly suggestive and revealing clothes. Even the two bouncers are acolytes. Only they were enormous compared to others. Not fat, but muscle. ‘Fuck me,’ Fred thought, ‘even their shit probably has muscles.’
He watched as the young acolytes seemed to flirt with these two behemoth acolytes, and the bouncers flirted back. Suddenly he remembered this club and laughed to himself. ‘It’s a lesbian club,’ he thought. ‘Since when is Jane a lesbian?’ He chuckled to himself again. ‘I suppose you learn something new every day. If it makes her happy, then good for her.’
He waited thirty minutes, yet still no sign of Jane. He pulled out his phone and rang Renata, no answer. ‘Probably asleep by now,’ he thought. ‘Those migraine drugs knock her rotten.’ He stood there feeling like a ‘shag on a rock,’ wondering what he should do. Fred didn’t have Jane’s cell phone number because why would his niece want her old uncle to call her? ‘I’ll just have to go over and ask about her,’ he thought. ‘Lesbian club be damned.’
He crossed the street and approached the bouncers. They checked him out with deep scowls, their mouths twisting into a pronounced sneer.
“Fuck off,” one said in a surprisingly deep voice.
‘Probably steroids,’ Fred thought.
“Men are only allowed inside by special invitation,” the other bouncer announced.
“Um. Sorry to be a bother,” Fred began. “My name’s Fred Wilson, and I’m here to pick up my niece, Jane Bartlett. I’ve been waiting for nearly an hour for her. Could you get her for me? I’ll wait here. I’m not looking to enter or spoil anyone’s fun.”
One of the bouncers with a buzz-cut hairdo looked at her clipboard and said, “Shit, he’s on the list.”
The other asked, looking at her colleague, “What?”
Buzz-cut showed her friend the clipboard. “His name is on the fucking list. Fred Wilson.” Both suddenly looked at Fred and smirked. One even laughed. Buzz-cut asked, “Are you sure you wanna go in there, Freddy boy? These dogs bite.”
Fred’s body stiffened as he fiddled with his jacket. “I don’t want to, no. Are you sure you can’t just pop inside and get Jane for me?”
The two bouncers shook their heads. “They’re expecting you, so take my advice and don’t keep them waiting,” Buzz-cut said.
‘Keep them waiting? Fuck off, Lesbians,’ he thought angrily.
Buzz-cut indicated to Fred to follow her. As soon as he entered the building, he could hear loud ‘dub-dub’ music, which he hated. Buzz-cut took him down some stairs to a basement bar. Fred feels stunned as he enters a room lit with flaming torches on the walls, creating an almost hypnotizing flickering effect and deep, intriguing pools of darkness. On one side of the room stood the bar with several female bartenders working hard to keep the thirsty patrons well-lubricated.
“She’s here, somewhere, but you’ll have to find her yourself,” Buzz-cut said.
“Thanks,” Fred said with a nod and wry grin.
Buzz-cut laughed. “Good luck, Freddy, boy, you’ll need it,” she said with a wink and left.

The music here is still techno as upstairs. However, it seemed softer, slower, and more seductive. Fred is the only male in the room. The acolytes present looked young, from eighteen to mid-twenties. They were beautiful, all of them. ‘Lipstick lesbians?’ Fred wondered, pleased with how hip he is with the modern terminology. The group looked like a box of exotic chocolates from his viewpoint. Some white, some Asian, some black, and some caramel. Mixing with the general chatter acolytes usually generate. Undeniable forbidden heat is present as well. They’ve dressed accordingly, too. Some were in micro miniskirts, long gowns with slits to their waists, necklines so low their breasts spilled out in all their glory, and many in skimpy or transparent dresses. Among them stood Jane, looking stunning in a very short, skimpy, backless black dress. Her arm was around a black woman whom she tongue-kissed.
Fred’s eyesight adjusted to the dim light in the room, and he discerned more was going on here than young acolytes flirting and drinking too much. Many of the ladies paired off, and each pair entwined in dark corners on beanbags, writhing sexually in each other’s arms. Some were kissing and caressing their most intimate parts. Others locked in sixty-nine positions, heads between thighs and licking and sucking each other’s pussy. At least one pair he spotted were violently scissoring each other. In contrast, others watched arm in arm, in a tender romantic embrace.
Sounds of sexual ecstasy, orgasms, and feminine moans rose softly above the music at times, adding to the seductiveness of the room. In short, Fred was witnessing a lesbian orgy in a nightclub. ‘Things have changed since my day,’ he thought sarcastically. The highly charged sexual atmosphere, the smell of pussy, cannabis, and cigarette smoke, and perfumed female bodies permeated his senses took its toll. So, without even thinking about it, he got an erection. Fred adjusted his pants quickly and hoped none of them had seen it. The room’s lighting seems so low that no one notices Fred at first. It allowed the man to enjoy the passions of the acolytes unseen.
However, someone eventually spotted him and shouted, “Oh my God, A MAN!”
